Who We Are

A Voice for the Calgary Chinese Community

The Calgary Chinese Union Association (CCUA) is an independent, non-profit, non-religious organization, registered in Alberta.

The CCUA connects Calgary Chinese groups and supporters together to have their voices heard and takes actions to have a greater impact on significant social and civil issues. The CCUA focuses on Canada by providing a platform for mutual assistance, safeguarding the rights and interests of the Chinese community, and promoting Chinese participation in politics.

Our Mandate

The Calgary Chinese Union Association has six key scopes that make up our mandate and guide the actions of our projects and events

  1. Provide a platform for mutual assistance to collaborate and promote the development of the livelihood and welfare of the Chinese community.

  2. Safeguard the legitimate rights and interests of the Chinese endowed by the Bill of Rights.

  3. When members of the Chinese community suffered unfair or discriminatory treatment that violates the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms, lead the Chinese community to speak out and defend their rights.

  4. Encourage the Chinese-Canadians to pay attention to Canadian politics, actively participate in politics, and vote in elections, so as to safeguard the overall interests of the Chinese.

  5. Promote the unity of the Chinese community, safeguard the human rights, education, and health of the Chinese community in Calgary, and maintain contact and friendly cooperation among various Chinese groups. Encourage the Chinese-Canadians to actively participate in the activities of community to promote the human rights and political rights of the Chinese in Canada.

  6. Encourage the Chinese to contribute their talents in various fields such as politics, economy, technology, culture, and sports, and create a fair, dignified, and free living environment for future generations.

  • April 14, 2023President Wu appointed as member of Premier's Council of Multiculturalism (PCM)
  • April 2023CCUA members campaigned for 5 Calgarian candidates running in the provincial election: Rajan Sawhney (North-west), Jason Copping (Varsity), Jason Luan (Foothills), Prasad Panda (Edgemont), and Josephine Pon (Beddington).
  • March 17, 2023CCUA participated in Premier Danielle Smith's Summit on Fairness for Newcomers event
  • March 17, 2023CCUA participated in Minister Jason Luan's open discussion on how to memorialize upcoming date marking 100 years since Chinese Exclusion Act
